BSSW student Demetrius "Dee-Dee" Gatson, CPSS, is founder of Q.U.E.E.N.S. Butterfly House, a safe-house for women re-entering society after prison. On April 12, 2024, Kansas became the seventh state to pass Social Work Interstate Licensing Compact Legislation. That was a threshold that had to be met for states to create a Compact Commission that will govern the Compact and ensure coordination between the participating states. In all, 10 states have passed Compact legislation: Missouri, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Kentucky, Virginia, Nebraska, Vermont, and Maine [source: www.socialworkers.org].

Our undergraduate social work degree program has undergone a dynamic restructure, aimed at increasing access and flexibility for students. The Grace Abbott School of Social Work has pioneered a new era of social work education, a versatile degree that prepares undergraduate students for beginning social work practice within a variety of social service settings.
The mission of the Grace Abbott School of Social Work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha is to educate students to become highly qualified social workers who serve all people, influence the systems that affect them, advance knowledge through teaching and research, engage with diverse communities, and promote socially just societies.
